I know that if you stop my pay I will not be at work so claiming that this isn't impacting them is bull.

That said getting things past them isn't that surprising. I have had a pair of full size scissors travel with me on a flight before, the carry-on I use is used for other things as well when I'm not traveling (I fly maybe once a year). Turns out I did a poor job of cleaning out the bag before my trip, flew to Florida no problem on the return flight there was a hold up and 3 agents gathered around my bag. I asked if there was something the issue as I legitimately didn't know of anything in there that would be a problem. They mentioned trying to figure out if the scissors were to big to fly with, I told them I didn't know there were any in there and they could just throw them away instead of holding people up. This whole conversation taking place loudly as I was not going to try walking up to them while they were examining my bag unless they asked me to, so everyone around me that was being held up know the could just toss the scissors as I told them that. They spend another 5 minutes of three people measuring and then decided they were fine. Oh best of all this was on the return trip that I got held up so they either were known good on the first flight or they were missed entirely.

If I wanted to get something past them I would have put it in the toe of my shoe (steal-toe boots and they never reach inside to check them) not a cloth bag full of clothes. Or used luggage that had a metal badge on it to hide something taped directly behind it. It isn't hard to figure out how to get something past these people. Most have time to figure it out while sitting and waiting for their flight since we are supposed to show up 2 hours early or something so we can be processed through 1/5 the number of people acting as tellers at each airline's check in but everyone gets routed through the small little line of TSA that looks like a walmart check out area with lots of closed lanes and 3 open.

"The perception that this might have occurred as a result of the partial government shutdown would be false," TSA said.

So they admit they are always this useless.

They've never caught anyone anyway and that includes terrorists, bombers or anyone else. We spend billions on this bunch of bumbling morons on exactly what? "Useless" is pretty much it in a nutshell.

In their defense they aren't getting paid so its understandable, I guess. Besides, the dude didn't shoot anyone nor did he hijack the flight.
