If they did that they would be blackmailed and or killed. I bet even a private individual who managed to get completely out of the system would probably be killed. There is a man called Prime Minister David Williams who is the only person who I have ever heard of who got out. He has interviews with Sarah Westall on Jewtube. (Rome never fell) was a title of one of them... Take the time to dig into what he has done... Fucking wild.

same. You should look into duckdns and run openvpn. It's awesome that I can securely port into my LAN if I'm on the other side of the planet.

How to protect your router

Cisco recommends:

Users of SOHO routers and/or NAS devices reset them to factory defaults and reboot them in order to remove the potentially destructive, non-persistent stage 2 and stage 3 malware.

Or, OR...roll your own...

It is to convert a pc into a router. You can use any old pc hardware laying around and just throw in some network cards and install it like any other os.

Though if you are concerned with power draw you may want to get a small formfactor barebones pc like the Shuttle XPC Slim DS77U which is fanless and low power draw.

Basically the idea is you run this as your primary router to protect your home network from outside threats (and it auto updates firmware in the background) and use your old wifi router as basically just an access point for the wifi aspect of your network.

PFSense is a joke compared to OpenBSD.
Do not buy into Security Placebo Theater.

Regardless of your opinion, pfSense is certainly better than a shit Tenda-esque router most skinflints buy because its the cheapest. People nowadays have an old pc laying around and all it costs is adding another NIC and formatting a USB stick.

pfSense is great for what it is!

500,000 over 54 countries so less then 10,000 to a country. I see the issue with total scale but a fix for this is not a quick thing to actually get applied to such a small portion of users. Most will not be impacted and not help spread the news so it will move slow if at all. Add in that home and small office are some of the worst offenders of updating tech that isn't automated (and even some that is) and it is amplified.

Seems small in comparison to units made. How would a small run like that be affected.

It wasn't a one run thing it was a collection of different brands that were vulnerable to an exploit. I would guess it is based on a specific feature and exploit so some with shipped firmware were vulnerable.

This is why I'm now using an Atom D525 as my router/vpn.
Stick your ISP's modem in bridge mode, and replace it with trusted (Spectre/Meltdown-free) hardware.
Cost me $100 for the hardware, and I'm getting 250MB/sec with my OpenVPN tunnel on WAN.
Literally able to encrypt all my network traffic on the router with zero bandwidth cost.

Meanwhile, you fucks all play Security Placebo Theatre behind your D-Link/Netgear/Ubiquiti gear, thinking you're safe.

Pfsense for building your own, or Untangle. you can flash ddwrt or open wrt, or tomato, depends on device support. And of course, Segregation.

What ever happened to Tomato? It's like they gave up right when the WPA2 flaw came out.

It looks like there's only one fork still current, the FreshTomato fork. The one that seemed to be most popular for a while, Shibby's, seems to have stopped updating last year. Burnout, perhaps?
