A sign you should cut your nails, you heathen! I always left one for it though, so I have no room to preach.

then is for time things, like you got ready then you went out to the store. thing 1 happened, later thing 2 happened.

than is for "other things", i would rather go to the store than order food. thing 1 happened, thing 2 did not.

I got it - LOL!

Remember when you'd drive down the road and see endless strings of the brown 8 track or cassette tape fluttering about, because someone got so frustrated they tossed a broken of tangled tape out the window.

I have a 1972 Dodge Dart with a factory 8-track deck. I have exactly one tape, and it is Kenny Rogers. It came with the car. It is as awesome as you might imagine. When that tape finally gives up its ghost, it will be a sad day. It already has data loss and the tape is warped in a few places, but I listen to it anyhow - pretty much every time I take it out for a spin.

I'd replace it and get more, but I'm kind of attached to it. It has become a thing. When it does die, I'll save it and not toss it out the window.

Good for you ... I had an 8 track in my first car ... but now I'm old and they were state of the art then, and I had to install it myself in my '63 Fairlane 500 2 door hard top baby. Hours and hours of great times were had as several 8 tracks went round and round. I actually liked them ... you plugged it in and forgot it ... I could be listening to The Who for a month driving around and not even notice after awhile. The last car I had with an 8 track was a factory installed deck in '78 Ford Ranchero. Never used it, not even sure if I even had a tape. By then 8 tracks were long obsolete and I listened mostly to the radio.

The 8 track design was simple and ingenious, the infinite loop that is always under tensions and the metal strip that changed the head position.

Yeah, but they broke and pulled out of the cartridge, too ... been there.

Then once you performed your life saving surgery on your cassette, you were treated to demon spawn music that was all distorted from the crinkled tape.

Only through parts... which I am sure is the main reason the gen before thought rock was of the devil.

Yeah but now we have the internet and we can screw with the kids all while someone else has to deal with the fallout. I call that a win. These punks are fresh for the squeezin'.

I get it. It's funny in the context that it's in.

My old man's famous words when I asked him why he was pulling the 8 track player out of the truck and replacing it with a cassette deck- "son, this is a cassette tape and it will never have to be replaced. They can't do any better than this."

Not the most forward thinking man but he's mine.

Edit: that was right before he taught me about electricity by having me pull the plug wire off the lawnmower while it was running to stop the engine. I became a pretty good mechanic though so.....

These days thingiverse would have a model for a specialized tool that is attached to a stepper motor and an arduino board.
