Freedom of speech in 2015. We're making the world a safe space.

But as is often brought up with DDG, anyone can CLAIM to have privacy features.

Except most people are far too apathetic to care. The last place we were at is the most recent proof I can think of.

Two issues here:

1) Government acting like a request to voluntarily not disclose is the same as getting a gag order ordering you not to disclose.

2) Rubber stamping of any warrant or gag order that is filled out fully.

Gag orders are an important tool for prosecution. There are definite cases where it is dangerous to let someone be tipped off that they are being investigated. This is extremely important in long-term investigations of people like spies, crime bosses, corporate fraud, etc. But they become heavily abused in cases where they really don't apply. Once Reason had the subpoena they were required to capture the data. It becomes a moot point if the commenters then find out and delete the comments/their accounts as the data was already captured. Also, there was no way someone was leaving the country based on a blog comment. So why gag them? To shut them up basically. They couldn't write articles tracking the process in real-time to make government look bad. And everyone knows that some little article after the fact will not get people upset badly enough to change anything. There is nothing to get a bunch of folks to fight about now. It's all over. At least until the next one we won't hear about until it is over.

Warrants are a whole other problem. Fill out the paperwork fully and you will get a warrant almost 100% promised.

For me, that is the telling aspect of the situation--there really are no checks left within the system...fill out the paperwork and get 'X' approved. I really liked the description of Velamoor, too. The system, particularly one that rewards with power, is designed to create the loss of the individual. I think this what creates the psychology for the rubber stamp environment ("we play for the same team") and it allows outsiders, no matter how minimal the offense, to become targeted with fervor ("these people said mean things on the internet").

Exactly. I mean, whose to say that someone working for Hillary Clinton's campaign didn't get me shadow banned from Reddit for speaking the truth about her or other things that go against the liberal agenda?

You don't even need the courts anymore.

On the same page: look what happened to Lavabit for the Snowden shit.

If you think you can just create a free speech machine, you gonna have some dicks poking around yo ass.

I felt like I was reading an article about China. Great read though. Very much worth the time.

What is the fucking rational to make a gag order constitutional?

It's not constitutional.

Have any SJW-ish internet commentators been affected? Because I have an interesting theory brewing within me that I need to post to /v/conspiracy some time about the true origin and nature of that 'movement'.

This really isn't an sjw thing. Its a how dare you say mean things about a judge thing; we'll make sure you know your place.

Sally I don't think so (I'll leave that typo there for comedic effect), most people seem to have switched off to the subject and don't seem to realise the greater danger of a movement like this.

Remember when Zeitgeist and other similar documentaries started coming out and the internet was abuzz with it? There was definitely revolution in the air, it felt like people were waking up in the masses and I think it's reasonable to assume that some powerful people felt a bit threatened by the culture of the internet at that point.

I find it a little convenient that it's all suddenly just dead and gone now and has been replaced by a bunch of nutjobs that convince the people to turn on the people and has us all fighting amongst ourselves again while ignoring the bigger picture. The SJWs seem to be too dense to see that they are doing god's work for the government and anyone else that corrupts humanity. What's better then a flock of sheep that want to censor themselves?

I'm not saying that this is certain but I think that it's very very possible that the SJW 'movement' is the result of social engineering sponsored by those who pull the strings.
