Evening Everyone ... This is a song I wrote for a friend called... Things You Have To Do ..... Kind of sappy but my heart was in the right place when I wrote it .....

[–] adbotshill 0 points 3 points (+3|-0) ago

Damn that was good. First time I ever heard of you, thanks for sharing. A friend of mine lost her son last year so that lyric connected hard with me.

[–] csuiter 0 points 2 points (+2|-0) ago

Thank you adbotshill ... I very much appreciate the kind words

[–] cynicaloldfart 0 points 1 points (+1|-0) ago

Oh man, Carl is the real deal. He's been coming around for the past few months and every song he does is top-notch pro stuff and all original songs. Check out his soundcloud channel:

[–] FishBoneFredd 1 points 3 points (+4|-1) ago

That was beautiful, mesmerizing, and epic. Thank you for sharing.

[–] csuiter 0 points 2 points (+2|-0) ago

Thank you FishBoneFred.... And thank you for listening and for the kind words

[–] cynicaloldfart 1 points 3 points (+4|-1) ago

Excellent as usual. I don't think I've yet to hear one of your songs I didn't thoroughly enjoy.

I may be doxing you a little further, as I was watching an old Twilight Zone and it occurred to me I know your true heritage. You're the more talented son of Burl Ives. :)

[–] csuiter 1 points 3 points (+4|-1) ago

Shhhhh ... It's a secret .... Laffin

[–] TheTrigger 1 points 2 points (+3|-1) ago

Man, this is good. The kind of song you play for your wife when you just know she needs to have a good cry. :p

[–] csuiter 1 points 2 points (+3|-1) ago

It's kind of sappy but I write a lot of those sappy songs .... my motto leave em cryin in the isles .... and I wonder why I can't get paying gigs ... Laffin

Happy Friday Night everybody.

This week I bring to you a VOAT collaboration of sorts. Last Friday @theBuddha and I were having a conversation and somehow or another we got to coming up with lines for the song 50 ways to leave your lover, you know the one, Just slip out the back, Jack, make a new plan, Stan. Instead of leaving, he would kill her. Be done with her once and for all. Then @sandhog got in the conversation, contributing more lines. Then @cynicalolddfart got into the act and contributed the perfect last line for this song.

Eventually we had over fifty of them and someone suggested that it be recorded with those lines in the song instead of Paul Simon's lame ass lines. So I took and compiled all the lines that we had come up with, asked both of those guys for some more, and my son helped me to come up with even more lines for the song. Then I somewhat organized them, learned to play the damn song. He uses some odd chords that I never use so it took some practice. And i recorded it last Sunday.

Finally on Wednesday my friend Chris came over and sang the song with me. We had to sing it five times over cause we busted up laughing so damn much while trying to sing these lines these guys came up with. So it kind of ended up with me deleting a whole bunch of laughter from the vocal parts yesterday all day. You still are getting all 5 takes of vocals at once now just so all the lines get heard. We couldnt do it in one take. Too many laughters.

So, without further adieu, I present to you the VOAT Guitar cabal version of 50 Ways to Kill Your Lover WARNING: the volume kicks in kind of loudly at the 8 second point, you might want to turn your speakers down.

[–] TheTrigger 0 points 5 points (+5|-0) ago  (edited ago)

This is the best thing I've heard all week. Seriously. Not even kidding. 100% cereal1.

  1. not sarcasm. Literally.

[–] crazy_eyes 0 points 3 points (+3|-0) ago

Thank you, that's a hell of a compliment! I'm glad you liked it, it was a lot of fun to do that one! The writing was fun, the playing was fun, the singing was fun, the listening was fun. I laughed through it all!

[–] TheBuddha [S] 1 points 4 points (+5|-1) ago

I listened to see if I could hear @COF's line. That was my big question - did you include his line? That was funny.

You did!

It was beautiful. I heard you guys trying not to laugh.

This has serious potential to be my third or second favorite.

[–] crazy_eyes 0 points 6 points (+6|-0) ago

I love it! There's even a line in there that says rip out her beating heart, old fart, but the old fart part is kind of hard to hear, those lines come and go fast and we were probably laughing

[–] 1moar 0 points 4 points (+4|-0) ago

Hell yeah!

[–] crazy_eyes 0 points 2 points (+2|-0) ago

Hell yeah!!

[–] nigger_plz 0 points 3 points (+3|-0) ago

To quote the great Voat, Paul Simon's a piece of shit.

Except he's got some pretty good songs. I liked this one.

[–] crazy_eyes 0 points 5 points (+5|-0) ago

Paul Simon was not harmed in the making of this song, unfortunately

[–] 14WordsToFreedom 0 points 8 points (+8|-0) ago

You fellows are a bunch of niggerfaggots. I went and dragged my old guitar out of storage this week to make another attempt at learning it, because of this weekly thread. My goal is to master “the four chords” so I can play a bunch of garbage pop music, and then branch out from there.

[–] Mustard_of_puppets 0 points 5 points (+5|-0) ago

Dude, learn the powerchords, just learn 3 string powerchords(ex:355) and learn the notes on the E string and the A string up to the 5th fret, then go to ultimate guitar and search what you want to learn but search for chord and lyrics, play the chords in accordance to the notes on the 1-5 on the E and A string and kappow you can play songs.

[–] 14WordsToFreedom 0 points 4 points (+4|-0) ago

Powerchords sounds like a good step two. Thanks.

[–] TheBuddha [S] 0 points 5 points (+5|-0) ago

Yeah, we do that. E A C D G E min A min

That's thousands of songs. Thousands, maybe more. Throw in a barre chord in two patterns and you can cover a lot.

[–] 14WordsToFreedom 0 points 4 points (+4|-0) ago

Once I’ve got the most basic chords, callouses, and some muscle memory, I think branching out will be easy. I though I had to learn dozens of chords to enjoy it, but Axis of Awesome has shown me otherwise.

[–] crazy_eyes 0 points 2 points (+2|-0) ago

That's pretty much what Chris plays. Every now and then he uses a capo

[–] crazy_eyes 0 points 4 points (+4|-0) ago

[–] nigger_plz 0 points 2 points (+2|-0) ago

This is a great song and it's only two easy chords. D and A. This is a classic and it's got a fuck libs attitude. Okie From Muskogee

[–] Charliethebum 0 points 7 points (+7|-0) ago

Wrote this one for my wifes bday a couple years back

[–] heygeorge 0 points 4 points (+4|-0) ago

I enjoyed this, thank you.

[–] crazy_eyes 0 points 4 points (+4|-0) ago

Hell yeah! I hope she loves it!

[–] callmeacello 0 points 3 points (+3|-0) ago

That was a really enjoyable listen!

[–] cynicaloldfart 0 points 3 points (+3|-0) ago

Very nice. I'll bet it made her day special.

[–] InsurrilliantAgain 1 points 7 points (+8|-1) ago

Here's a story: I was in a band over a decade ago and posted my CDs online, nothing ever happened and I forgot where everything was. Well I finally got inspired to track them down and apparently I'm on Spotify and am ecstatic to hear that my music has had at least tens of thousands of plays! Wow, I can't tell you how uplifting that is.

AND spotify gives me 1/10,000 of a penny for each play!!!! So I've made a few dollars. And that's not a euphemism, literally a few dollars. haha

Anyways, this was one of the more popular songs. It's called Been Alone: https://instaud.io/3F5o

One day soon I hope to share one of my unrecorded songs, just need to get my voice back and a good recording...

[–] Timmy2 0 points 3 points (+3|-0) ago

If you don't have any physical ailment that prevents you from enjoying playing, please take it up again. It's only been ten years. Do it for the human race.

[–] InsurrilliantAgain 0 points 3 points (+3|-0) ago

Thank you for the kind words. I hope to record and share some new stuff here soon. Until then I'll keep pimpin' out the old stuff :P

[–] User55 0 points 2 points (+2|-0) ago

You've got a few more thousandths coming your way

[–] InsurrilliantAgain 0 points 1 points (+1|-0) ago

Too bad Canada got rid of its pennies :)

[–] crazy_eyes 0 points 2 points (+2|-0) ago

Nice! Now you're a rock star!

[–] InsurrilliantAgain 0 points 3 points (+3|-0) ago

Yesterday I fell off of a shady ladder and dented my kneecap, so yeah I'm a pretty big deal... I mean heel.

[–] TheBuddha [S] 0 points 2 points (+2|-0) ago

Did you figure out where you're gonna spend your new found wealth? LOL

[–] InsurrilliantAgain 0 points 4 points (+4|-0) ago  (edited ago)

Oh I'm putting it towards the next CD of course. The one this was on only cost 16k, what an investment~!

[–] Mustard_of_puppets 1 points 7 points (+8|-1) ago

Here's my contribution so far, for some reason I found this song hard, I can't place why, there's not much to it. It's called I hear you calling and it's originally by a Canadian punk band called Gob, I'm not sure if they got big in the US or not, but they were huge up here in the 90's

[–] TheBuddha [S] 0 points 5 points (+5|-0) ago

There are some insanely easy songs to play that I just have a damned difficult time singing and playing at the same time. It's just certain songs.

I can play the lead and sing a ton of stuff like GnR and Metallica.

I pretty much fucking suck at playing and singing The House of the Rising Sun. Yup...

[–] crazy_eyes 0 points 3 points (+3|-0) ago

Try to do the Oi oi Oi part of AC/DC TNT while playing the rhythm once! It's fucked up

[–] Mustard_of_puppets 0 points 3 points (+3|-0) ago

I honestly think it's that quick in the verse c# when I say "fourth" because I only hit it once and I really really want to hit it twice.

[–] inverseowl 0 points 2 points (+2|-0) ago

I know of them, pretty under the radar in the U.S. but had some bangers back in the day.

[–] User55 0 points 2 points (+2|-0) ago

Was that your first take? Very good, just enough raspiness.

[–] Mustard_of_puppets 0 points 1 points (+1|-0) ago

1st take that I made it through the intro.

[–] TheTrigger 0 points 2 points (+2|-0) ago

> Gob

Is that pronouced "Jobe" or "Gob" as in, "God" with a backwards "b"?

[–] Mustard_of_puppets 0 points 1 points (+1|-0) ago

Like job with G.

[–] LegalPERSON 0 points 7 points (+7|-0) ago

I had a mid week show and another tonight so I didn’t get to work on anything this week unfortunately. I did make a quick video of a cool custom amp I bought. It’s not really any coherent song; just some random riffs off the top of my head as I was going through a few settings.

I’ll probably check out the songs tonight and tomorrow morning. I won’t be able to hear anything at the venue. Just wanted to pop in and say what’s up...so what’s up!? Haha

[–] Mustard_of_puppets 0 points 4 points (+4|-0) ago

don't forget you owe me 123 slam, haha jk, Anyways sweet amp your headstock reminds me of a one armed lady I know's stubby elbow though.

[–] LegalPERSON 0 points 2 points (+2|-0) ago

Yeah man I remember haha. I don’t have any shows this week so I should be able to do it

[–] crazy_eyes 0 points 3 points (+3|-0) ago  (edited ago)

cool riffs man!

What's up, people?!?

[–] TheBuddha [S] 0 points 3 points (+3|-0) ago

Have I ever told you that you look like a guy that knows where to buy heroin?

[–] LegalPERSON 0 points 4 points (+4|-0) ago

Haha I bet I could stand in my back alley for an hour and get some!

[–] Straight_up_Prick 1 points 7 points (+8|-1) ago

I see this thread every Friday. And well i wish i still had a guitar. i started when i was 14 and i am 54 now. I been playing on and off for years. I have had maybe 15 guitars, maybe 6-7 amps and a godless amount of pedals over the years. I currently do not have a guitar. Can really afford it on my fixed budget. Otherwise I wish I could join in and share some notes and riff's. I love guitars, still have books and books. I feel bummed I cannot participate. But I enjoy the threads. Some real talented individuals on past threads. Looking forward to tonight. Thanks puttitout

[–] TheBuddha [S] 0 points 7 points (+7|-0) ago

If you know what you're doing, there are pawnshop guitars. There are also very playable acoustic guitars in the $200 region, brand new.

[–] TheTrigger 0 points 2 points (+2|-0) ago  (edited ago)

↑seriously. My first guitar was some ~$200 mass-produced Chinese thing. It's still my favourite one. Bought a few for different reasons, over the years, but it still plays the best. Loudest, clearest and most melodic-sounding notes I've ever heard... damn thing's 15 years old and for some reason just sounds better as the years go by. Even though I suck at guitar, it was always my second-favourite instrument. All this to say: don't let price-range get you down. You might even be able to pick one up for free that you could refurbish, and it might just end up being the best guitar you ever had. @Straight_up_Prick

[–] 14WordsToFreedom 0 points 3 points (+3|-0) ago

Post on Craigslist or whatever, old fart needs free guitar. You never know.

[–] crazy_eyes 0 points 2 points (+2|-0) ago

54 is an old fart? shit!

[–] Straight_up_Prick 0 points 1 points (+1|-0) ago

LOL Thanks, but im not looking for handouts. Eventually I will find a way to afford something decent.

[–] Mustard_of_puppets 0 points 3 points (+3|-0) ago

I have a bass I'd give you if you were willing to post weekly what you've learned but you'd have to pay 100% all shipping and everything from the middle of nowhere Canada to wherever you live. You could probably find a better one locally cheaper but I'll send it if you want it.

[–] Straight_up_Prick 0 points 3 points (+3|-0) ago

I've had a epicphone student bass at at one time. It was fun. it was cherry red too. Not looking for charity. It would be fun, but have no amp. I mean i could order a cheap pc interface and some pirated software to make it happen. I throw down some funky waze or some CHEVY METAL? But I feel weird asking for or accepting anything.

[–] Straight_up_Prick 0 points 0 points (+0|-0) ago

Thanks for being a sincere real person. I'll find a way to scrape up some cash and find a decent playable guitar eventually. God bless you.
