I was having my early AM cup of coffee and reading an article in the AP website when I saw an advertising link ( http://www.ashleystewart.com/plus-size-outfits-trends-denim?scd=sp_taboola_desktop%2F&utm_source=taboola%20desktop&utm_medium=cpc%20content&utm_campaign=taboola%20desktop%20denim%205.6.16&utm_source=taboola&utm_medium=referral ) that said “Get the Skinny, Cropped & Flair on Plus-Sized Summer Denim “... I cringed and a voice inside me said “Oh, noooooo.....” but morbid curiosity made me click on the link. It was the Ashley Cooper company, and they hawk so-called “fashions” for pigs. Every one of the “models” was an absolute whale--well into Class II Obesity and a few of them probably close to if not into Class III Obesity. A couple of them were sporting Daisy Duke style denim cutoffs--reminiscent of a young, truly hot Catherine Bach or Jessica Simpson, but needless to say not even remotely resembling either of them way back then.
Acceptance, promotion and glorification of health-destroying obesity like this is just disgusting. It’s corporate money-grubbing and irresponsibility at their absolute worst. It screams to young women that taking zero care of yourself or your health is OK and can be counteracted by wearing aesthetically obscene so-called “fashions”, showing off your horrendous fat to the world and calling it “beauty”.
I wish I had a transporter beam machine like they had on the starship Enterprise in the Star Trek franchise movies and TV shows. If I did, I’d use it to transport every one of those awful pig models wearing those revolting “fashion” outfits into the middle of a really bad, unsafe neighborhood in Beirut, Baghdad, Tehran or Riyadh. Time for a little cross-cultural “fashion exchange” and a great opportunity to let nature take its course!
