50-70% of babies born a 24 weeks gestation survive.
Frieda Mangold is youngest baby to be born and survive to live a healthy life. She was born at 21 weeks 4 days gestation.
Here are numerous other stories of babies being born very early, and very tiny. They survived and most have little to no developmental or health issues:
As we continue to make medical advancements, more and more preterm babies will survive and thrive. So then why did NYC just pass a bill to allow a woman to abort a baby past the age of viability to be able to protect her life or health? If there is an emergency and it's necessary to deliver a baby to save the life of the mother, there are supportive medical interventions that can also be used to save the life of the baby.
Often when it becomes clear a baby will need to be delivered prematurely, doctors can administer steroids to the mother to speed up the baby's lung development and increase its chances of survival.
This law Is being sold to the public as necessary to protect women's health, but in reality there's no reason why doctors couldn't also try to save the life of the baby if there was truly a medical concern for the mother.
It's been discussed that the purpose of legalizing the abortion of babies past 24 weeks is to get more money from selling baby parts, however in 2015 Planned parenthood stated they were no longer accepting reimbursements for tissue.
I'm not sure if they really did stop accepting reimbursements, or if they now call it something else- like a donation. These people are sick and manipulative so who knows.
Plain and simple this new law is about legalizing late term abortions, and they sold it in a more palatable form to the public with their choice of wording!
Here's an article on the bill in case anyone hasn't read up on it yet:
