LibreOffice (LO) is updated more than OpenOffice (OO) and has a much more active development cycle last time I checked. They are both related (LO forked from OO when Oracle basically dumped development after they bought the parent company) but LO seems to have gotten most of the good OO developers in the fork. Oracle donated the OO code to Apache but they just don't have the talent/headcount on it that LO does in my view.

It's been a while since I've tried that fork, has openoffice evolved much in the last few years?

Tbh I havent been using it so much to notice. My employer pays for ms office for work stuff and I dont get a chance to flex openoffice's abilities just using it for personal reasons.

It's kind of like using office from 10-15 years ago, which is fine with me. I have only come across a few things in excel that it doesnt have. Tbh I wouldnt be surprised if libre office and open office were related projects in some way,

Is there a calendaring client (as in a m$ exchange server/outlook client replacement) ? There is not.
