I think you'll find a slightly different definition of "Safe" here.

Is it safe to post? Hell yes. Is it safe to argue? Absolutely. You can have any opinion you want, and you can get vocal about it, and you can say what you like - right or wrong. Nobody should stop you.

However, you cannot expect this to be a "Safe Space" in the newspeak sense. You are not going to find an echo chamber where only people that will parrot the accepted approved opinions back at you are allowed to speak. If that's what you're after - and it doesn't sound like you are - then you'd want to go somewhere else.

I respect your wish to find a better work-life balance. For all feminism has done for women's "liberation", it has certainly pushed that balance in a direction that many women find to be uncomfortable, a direction that asks too much of them and effectively removes some of their choices in the name of Leaning In. I hope that you find the balance you're after.

I think this site could benefit from a moderate feminist user base. I personally have no trouble with women promoting equal rights. The problem i have with an extremist feminist is the women superiority complex.

I'll give you the same advice i've given other subverses. Make a few posts on occasion, keep the lights on, and wait for reddit to implode from its drama. the users will come, just be patient. I have been here for 6 months, and the user base has just received a nice spike. Several more are on the horizon. I hope the servers can handle the load.

What rights do you think western men have that western women lack?

I think there is an uneven distribution of rights between men and women. Men have some percieved rights women do not have, and women have other rights that men do not have.

Case and point rape. If a woman rapes a man, she has the right to both keep any child from that rape, and demand child support from her victim. Reverse the genders and the man is a monster for demanding that the woman keep his child to term, and it is a crime against humanity if that woman looses custody of Her child to that man. This is not equal rights, it is two rights a woman has that a man lacks.

The main example of a woman's right that i keep hearing about is the lack of women in politics. the problem is that by the letter of the law there is no gender requirement to hold public office. This means that the barrier to entry is not the law. Politicians require support from the community, and wealthy campaign contributors which due to historical legacy are mainly old men. There are old wealthy women, but i do not know any statistics on that ratio of old wealthy men vs old wealthy women, and they're participation ratio and magnitude of their contributions. The perception of the public is that men are the primary contributors to politics. If that perception is true, and if old men prefer other men to be in charge, then it would explain why they contribute to men more often than women. In this case it is not a law that needs to change, it is the number old old wealthy women who want to contribute to politics. This is something that does not change very often, and each generation has to deal with the legacy of the previous two or three generation that want to shape politics with their money. In order to fix this, there must be women who value making money above all else this generation, and hold on to their money until they are old, then spend it on campaign contributions, while encouraging other woman to join their path to change the field of political donations. I don't know why this has not happened yet, but the potential is there to happen in another 30 or 40 years.

As long as feminism means love everyone equally. You should be safe.

Well that depends. I am not a feminist but I follow the feminist subs to understand what kind of issues they believe are relevant to get a more clear picture of the grand scheme of things. If I am not banned for this post you probably have a brighter future than your counterpart on reddit. Just take great care who you mod.

Looks like a moderate is modding this sub so far. Good luck.

Haha, yes, it's safe. ^-^ It's a shame that people downvoted you for wanting to be a SAHM. Having the freedom to do what you want with your life is what empowerment is all about.

Absolutely. And the kicker is that it's not even that I want to be a SAHM because it's my dream or anything, I would be happy if my boyfriend could be a SAHD - I just fundamentally believe in raising my our own children no matter which parent it is.

One of my friends told me a story about when he was in kindergarten he was asked what he wanted to be when he was grown up and he said a SAHD. His classmates and teacher laughed at him.

Hi,

Would you identify as a feminist? If so what does feminism mean to you? what changes would you like to see in society? Do you think some societies are better towards women than others?

I once mentioned how I'd love to be able to stay home with my children and was downvoted into oblivion

I have heard this opinion before voiced before. It tends to go against what people understand feminism to be about I think. It seems pretty sensible to think that women should be happy to look after the children, they seem to be better at it but feminists and other leftist types seem to be assured that men and women are equal (i.e no difference)

I have never identified myself as a feminist but only because it's not my "main" thing, as in I don't live and breathe it like I do other subjects I care for. I do care about women's rights. I volunteer at planned parenthood and protested Hobby Lobby. I cried like a baby when Wendy Davis stood in her pink tennies for 11 hours and filibustered the Texas Senate. For me, feminism wasn't a "club" but just how I lived consciously. I wouldn't call my mother feminist, but that is how she raised me. To be strong and provide for myself, always have your own back, never let a man (or anyone for that matter) tell you how you should be, act or feel. That is how I view feminism.

Running into a meeting at work but will answer the rest, your last sentence sparked many thoughts as I was just discussing the other day that for me equality does not mean we are not different at all - if that makes sense.

It does but at the same time it is confusing to me. I am aware of the concept of equality before the law and that is kind of what people think of when they talk equality. I somehow get the impression though that there are others that literally think people are equal in something like the mathematical sense of the word. For instance I think it is debatable as to whether there are innate differences between people based on biology or genetics . The issues seem to be highly politicised with extreme views seemingly reassured that scientific consensus supports their positon..

Empowering people, women, to be what they want to be is all that counts! Don't worry how people judge you, just make sure you wake up with a smile every morning and sleep happy at night!

What Dick-Tracy said. This subverse seems closer to actual feminism than anything on reddit, ever since SRS took control.
