1985 > 'Hey, Leave the Gays Alone.. They're Not Hurting Anyone' / 2019 > 'Hey Gays, Can You Leave US the Fuck Alone?' submitted by Oh_Well_ian to whatever

This is what has been pushing my conservative more than anything. As I look back in recent history, conservatives fucking told us so, and I was too stupid to listen back then. Again and again they were right.

2008 - If you legalize gay marriage, then they'll want to legalize pedophilia. "That's just homophobia. That'll never happen."
2018 - Legalize pedophilia!

1999 - Title IX will push men out of college. "Sexist! Men already have all the advantages and that won't change."
2018 - Kangaroo courts and hostile administration have pushed men and whites out of college. Women outnumber men now 3:2 in college.

1982 - It's not fair to require special treatment of races in hiring. Let us hire based on ability. "Hiring will always be meritocratic."
2018 - Diversity officers at all major corporations. Preferential racial hiring for quotas.

1978 - If we allow no fault divorce, we'll destroy the institution of marriage. "Stop being chicken little and let people divorce."
2018 - Marriage is destroyed in America. Percentage of couples married is cut in half vs '78 (60% -> 30%).

1965 - If we just allow in immigrants, we'll stop being a white nation. "Don't be racist. That'll never happen."
2018 - We're a non-white nation (15% nonwhite in 1965 -> 40% nonwhite 2018). "Whites will be a minority by 2050 and there's nothing you can do to stop it!"

The more I look at things, the more I'm convinced that "the right side of history" is the right wing, since they fucking called it every time.

Anyone else notice that since the riots started in Paris, the moslims there have stopped their bullshit? submitted by totes_magotes to whatever

This may be the only riot in history where the national crime rate goes down.

I Don't Care about Internet Points. So here's my take. I'm Drunk, and Nazi's are Socialists. And therefore Faggots in the Highest order. submitted by casualgoat to whatever

It's one thing to be a socialist in 1930 when it's still an experimental ideology that shows some promise.

It's a whole other thing to be a socialist in 2018 after it's been tried and failed... and tried again and failed... and again and again and again and again and again and again...

What are the best Video Games of All Time? submitted by EarthBoun41 to gaming

There's a lot of nostalgia here, but I don't think that's accurate anymore. 5 years ago and the best story RPG of all time was probably a 10 year+ old game (BG2 or PS:T or FF7), but nowadays IMO that spot is firmly held by Witcher 3. And it's not just there.

It's a weird phenomena where games that ruled for decades as the best example in their niche are all finally getting successors in the last 1-3 years.

  • Doom 2 (1994) -> Doom (2016)
  • Rome: Total War (2004) -> Total War Warhammer (1+2)
  • Super Metroid/SotN (1997) -> Hollow Knight/Dead Cells
  • Mario Odyssey (kind of an outlier, since Mario has a long lineage of improvement)
  • Marvel vs Capcom 3 (2011) -> Dragon Ball Fighter Z
  • System Shock 2 (1999) -> Prey (w/ Expansion)
  • Harvest Moon 64/PS1 (1999) -> Stardew Valley
  • Final Fantasy Tactics (1997) -> Divinity Original Sin 2
  • UFO: Enemy Unknown (1994) -> XCom 2 (w/ expansion)
  • God of War (2005) -> God of War (2018)
  • Counterstrike (2000) -> Rainbow Six Siege
  • And also games that had no classic parity, like the Soulsborne games and Monster Hunter World.

We're in a gaming golden age right now, and in a decade or so 2016-2018 will be looked back to in the same way that 1997-2000 is looked back to right now. I don't know why it's happening. Maybe some companies finally realized they should make fun and good games instead of trying to extract dollars, but games are looking up for the first time in a long while.

TLDR; lots of the "best video games of all time" are recent releases now.

The internal combustion engine became viable in 1849. Think about that for a moment. submitted by vastrightwing to technology

As someone who owns an electric, it's still 20 years out from prime-time.

Until we get electric stations with fast charge (where fast is measured <10mins) and 100+ mile ranges standard (eg not just Teslas), gas powered vehicles aren't going anywhere. It sucks bad wanting to visit a nearby city and not being sure you can actually make it there.

Only thing I could see driving it otherwise is if gas prices went above $10+ a gallon like they have to pay in Europe during bad years.
