Man, I wish more people felt that homeschooling was an option. We are starting our second year, and if I can figure out how to make it work, I think most people can. There's a ton of resources out there to walk you through. My husband works full time, I work part time, and my kid is still getting much more out of her education now than when she was in school.

I felt guilty because every message in our culture is designed to get women into the work place. Consequently, I considered myself inadequate and a failure even after I'd delivered our daughter with no pain meds and brought a whole new human into this world. I imagine most women feel the same guilt. There's no one there applauding mothers who stay home with their kids. There's plenty of people who'll look down on you for it, though.

As far as my husband goes, it's been interesting. The more I cede to his best judgement, the happier I am and the more he takes charge. It's actually pretty sexy.

Wow, I'm flattered! Sorry it took me so long to get up the nerve to do it.

Get Ready For Riots In St. Louis: St. Louis ex-officer acquitted in killing submitted by DasReich to news

I had to laugh this morning when I saw that Lyda Krewson's house had been surrounded by a mob last night. I also saw one of my friends and her adolescent daughter on the live feed at the downtown protest yesterday. It's getting awfully difficult to walk the narrow line of not letting my true thoughts and feelings be known. I am cowardly, though, and depend on my social ties.

My 4th grade kids whole school was forced, by the school administration, to leave class yesterday for brainwashing. submitted by SocksOnCats to AskVoat

Homeschool is very doable. I took my kid out of school in 4th grade because of something similar. 2 years into homeschooling, and our family is happier and healthier than we have ever been. We have made some financial sacrifices to make this happen, but the rewards have been great! Feel free to message me if you'd like support or guidance or a place to bitch about institutionalized schooling.

My husband collects Black Americana. Also known as Negrobilia, I believe. Mammy salt and pepper shakers, that kind of stuff.
