It's Friday night and it's time once again for the Friday Night Guitar Thread (FNGT). In this thread, we meet and discuss our musicianship. We try to push ourselves to new heights and encourage all to participate.
There's a few things you should know:
- This isn't a competition.
- All instruments are welcome here, not just guitar.
- We don't care if you're new, we still want to hear you.
Some of us play for fun. Some of us are professionals. Some of us don't play at all! It doesn't matter. What matters most is that we're enjoying ourselves - and we've been enjoying ourselves for a long time.
Please consider that we archive the submissions. If you don't want us to archive them, please let us know. Previous threads can be found on FNGT. In the interest of archiving, we suggest using a standards compliant site that doesn't delete your files. Instaud.io is a good site for this and account generation isn't a bad idea nor a troublesome process.
Do note that the FNGT site is by invitation only. If you'd like an invitation, and you're contributing, go ahead and ask. We'll get you squared away.
When you submit a track, it's best to submit one track at a time (and maybe a few per thread) and to do so in a new comment chain. This will get more notice and it is easier for us to find.
Remember, everyone here has had to work to get to where they are. What we do is work. It's not easy. If it were easy, everybody would do it. So, when you do participate, concentrate on the positive rather than the negative.
This is not my thread. This is the goat's thread. You all make the thread what it is.
If you have any musicianship questions, this is a good place to ask. We've had everything from harmonica to flute, from trumpet to uke, from guitar to drums. In this thread, there's bound to be someone who knows a little about something. Sometimes, we even know a lot about stuff.
Don't be bashful. It does take some courage to share, but it's usually a pretty good thread and we're pretty comfortable with each other. We've been doing this thread for well over a year and we've gotten to know each other pretty well. You're encouraged to become a part of this.
And, well, this is Voat. We don't delete comments. We don't ban. If someone's being an idiot, just move on - or goad them for your own amusement.
So, grab your Mustang Sally and your cell phone. Grab a free recording app and play us a song! You can make electronic music, blow a trumpet, bang pots and pans, or even just sing! We want to hear all of your music.
What we don't want to hear is your favorite band playing your favorite song. We want music that you worked on. (We'll also be happy with work your kids or grandkids, spouse or siblings, etc. worked on - as we've had submissions of that nature before.)
Finally, the goats that do this week in and week out actually work at this. Yes, again, it's work. So, go ahead and let them know what you appreciated most from their work. Go ahead and ask 'em questions, let them know you listened, or share a track of your own. But, most of all enjoy yourself - but not at the expense of other people. Thanks and welcome!
